1. VISION.

It is the vision of Learning Solutions to be the largest provider in learning for Power Plants in the Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution Sectors offering a variety of learning units spread across all Power utilities in South Africa, excellence in innovation towards learning design and delivery opportunities for learners to progress within set outcomes criteria as defined by relevant au.thorities, and assure quality in Education and training by maintaining accreditation standards with the rel.evant Sector for Education and Training Authority.

2. MISSION.

To provide results driven training to all learners within the Power fraternity and ensure that each learner gains relevant skills and knowledge through learning which can be used to their advantage while following their chosen career path.  Ensuring skills development in accordance with, The Energy Sector Education and Training Authority (ESETA) and The South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).

 In its mission Learning Solutions commits itself to the following:

3. PROVIDER HISTORY.

Learning Solutions specializes in the design, development and implementation of all skill development required for Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution South Africa, addressing skill development needs for Hydro, Nuclear and Fossil Power Plants as well as the control of Electrical Networks.

Learning Solutions was established in 2001 under the Executive Directorship of Mr Kobus Brits, Kobus was employed by Eskom for 24 years in the discipline of leading the Operating Training group for Power Plant Operation. He has been the Chairperson for Power Plant Operations Standards Generating Body (SGB) since 2003 and serves the industry by setting National Standards for competence of Operating outcomes in all functional roles.  

Learning Solutions is an accredited learning provider adhering to the criteria as set out by the Energy Sector Education and Training Authority (Eseta), to provide training on a National Level within quality standards as set out by the Energy Sector Education and Training Authority (Eseta).

The company has grown to permanently employ 24 full time training facilitators,  6 learner ship administrators, 1 business manager and 1 business administrator.  Training facilitators and 6 learner ship administrators are based on various sites, the business manager and business administrator are based at Head Office in eMalahleni.

4. CUSTOMER TARGET GROUP

All training is aimed at Power Production, Distribution and Transmission in an around South Africa.  Learning Solutions client base consists of the following:  Electricity Supply Commission (Eskom) – Various Power Stations, Local Government -Pretoria West Power Station, Rooiwal Power Station, Sappi Saiccor,Sappi fine papers, Rotek Engineering, Eskom Uganda ,National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA)  Training is provided within the following divisions:

5. CONTRACTUAL COMMITMENTS

5.1

LEARNERSHIPS

Being an accredited provider Learner Solutions has been awarded contracts with various power producers around the country.   The entire Power Plant Operations learning systems of the following power producers have been outsourced to Learning Solutions:


  • Camden Power Station

  • Komati Power Station

  • Rotek Engineering


The learning systems of our clients, includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Entire administration function – on site

  • Providing Power Generation, Distribution and Transmission Facilitators and or assessors – on site

  • Development of Learning Material

  • Assessment Tools


Being an accredited training provider all training is provided in accordance with the registered Learnerships and in conjunction with criteria as set out by the Energy Sector Education and Training Authority (ESeta).

INDIVIDUAL COURSES

A need was also identified by our client Eskom Generation – Witbank, to present individual courses for GSDP learners.  Learning Solutions presents but is not limited to the presentation of the following individual courses:

  • Turbine Plant

  • Boiler Plant

  • Auxiliary Plant

  • Electrical Reticulation

  • Practical Simulations

  • Occupational health and safety

  • Leadership Development

  • ETDP  development (Assessment,Mentoring,Coaching,Learning Facilitation, Unit standard development)


The above courses are presented theoretically and practically.

5.3

COMPUTER TRAINING

All Qualifications registered by South African Qualifications Authority include Unit Standard Based computer training.  Learning Solutions also provides the following unit standards based computer training:


  • MS Word

  • MS Excel

  • MS Access

  • MS Outlook


The above courses can be presented from Basic – Advanced.  Learning Solutions is an accredited training provider for computer training.

5.4

NON ACCREDITED TRAINING

Learning Solutions presents non accredited training to various clients in the power plant  Industry in South Africa. These interventions will be custom-made for the various client needs to       Improve there bottom line results and to better there core business processes. During this  customization Learning Solutions will use existing training material combined with what the clients needs to then present the training interventions.

Examples:

  • Rotek engineering basic business understanding.

  • Leadership profile with learning gap closing.

  • Transformational leadership.

  • Transactional leadership.

6. TRAINING MATERIAL

6.1

DEVELOPMENT

Outcomes based education and training requires a relevant new approach to training material.  Learning Solutions is in a position with competent training material developers to develop site specific material in the discipline of Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution, but is not limited to such disciplines.  Learning material is developed to meet the needs of Unit Standards criteria as required by South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).  Adjustment to learning material format as required by the Energy Sector for Education and Training is currently underway with all Learning Material in use.

6.2

IMPLEMENTATION

Learning Solutions employs accredited, registered and experienced Facilitators and Assessors to implement and ensure that all training material developed and or current material is presented within the criteria as set out by the Energy and Water Sector for Education and Training Authority (EWSETA).  These facilitators are committed to a code of conduct and will at all times strive to provide all clients and learners with fair training and feedback to ensure that the desired outcomes, for both client and learner is achieved.

6.3

ASSESSMENT INSTRUMENTS

Competence Based Assessment Instruments are required by National Standards to provide a fair approach to the assessment of each learner.  These assessment instruments can be developed by Learning Solutions in conjunction with learning material.
